Gary Leonard Unveils Large Scale Downtown LA Photos With A Colori Kitchen Feast
LOS ANGELES- On Thursday, December 13th, downtown's galleries celebrate the final Art Walk of 2007. Wine and conversation will flow freely. And at Colori Kitchen, the popular South Park trattoria of longtime Ca'Brea chef Luigi Barducci Contessi, prolific L.A. photographer Gary Leonard unveils his first exhibition of large-scale photographs, PHOENIX, a series of architectural images documenting the 21st Century transformation of downtown Los Angeles. The show is curated by Kim Cooper of 1947project and Esotouric bus adventures.
Chef Luigi plans to honor the restaurant's house photographer with a special menu of delicacies, his gift to people coming to view the show from 6pm-9pm. Leonard's studio/gallery is just around the corner from Colori Kitchen in the South Park district, where hundreds of his small-scale photographs will be for sale and on view.
PHOENIX represents the many faces of downtown Los Angeles and its architectural rebirth, and features numerous shots that could only be obtained by a photographer granted Leonard's unique level of access. Among the striking scenes are construction views of the futuristic hulk of Thom Mayne's CalTrans headquarters, Frank Gehry's Disney Hall and the newly opened L.A. Live complex, a haunting portrait of the Ambassador Hotel in its death throws, and such iconic structures as the LAX Theme Building (in a photo shot in tribute to modernist master Julius Schulman), City Hall and the Central Library, which once commissioned Leonard to document the city for its permanent collection.
The framed photographs measure 20" x 24" and 20" x 30", and would fit just right on a big, white loft wall. So come join Gary, Luigi and the Colori Kitchen family for great photos, great food, great company and a celebration of downtown's renaissance on Thursday, December 13.
